1982 Suzuki GS450E
Summary:
The world would be a better place if everyone who could ride owned a GS450
Faults:
Only a couple regular rectifier units, 1 inlet valve. Had cam chain done per service and shims checked when due. Oil and filter change mostly 2500-3000km when in service.
General Comments:
Old reliable, carries my large frame without fuss.
Use depends on work; if in the same area as home then it gets commuter work; when away then gets reg on holidays and some light touring.
Apart from a good check over, I would not hesitate to ride interstate on it now. Still in good order with minor cosmetic blemishes, a few scrapes, handling and brakes good, Koni rear shocks years ago (still fine), and fork oil changed when purchased and roughly every 20000km since. Motor quiet and negligible oil consumption; maybe due for a carb fresh up now, although they seem to work OK still.
Handlebar fairing helps a lot at 100khr or signposted speeds. Capable on dirt roads, as 1989 to 1994 I had 2km one direction or 3.5km dirt from home to a sealed road. Shed has a number of other bikes, but it would be one of the last to go if motorcycling and me go our separate ways. Hoping even in retirement to be able to go and get the mail or scoot across town on a nice day.
Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes
