1997 Honda GL 1500 Gold Wing
Summary:
Comfort and pure relaxation on the highway
Faults:
Front display: clock, trip odometer, fuel level display not working properly (float/sensor sinking); minor inconveniences.
Speakers had to be replaced as the membranes disintegrated after 21 years. Upholstery started to rip. Caliper seals and pads were replaced.
Total amount spent on repairs (excluding oil changes and tires) in last 4 years and 38,000km is $280,- . Can't complain about that.
General Comments:
Extremely reliable bike. Very comfortable especially during long distance trips; 4 speaker stereo + cruise control, you get the drift... Halogens High and Low are excellent. Lot of luggage space. Definitely not a light bike. Not a middle weight either, but great for highway travels. Reverse gear makes parking easy. Average fuel consumption 7.2 l/100km.
It is not a vehicle for the beginners, but after few seasons of riding experience, I would definitely recommend it as an ultimate cruiser to everyone. The only better bike that I know of now is GL 1800. Oh, yes it's on my driveway...
Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes
