1977 BMW R 100/7
Summary:
An all round quality motorcycle capable of covering huge mileages with reliability and comfort
Faults:
Nothing....
The Bing carbs being fed by independent cables required regular balancing.
General Comments:
This was my first experience with BMW, and became impressed with the build quality and reliability very quickly.
The engine rock at idle took getting used to, but that soon became reassuring.
The finish on the motorcycle parts was excellent and obviously fit for purpose.
The bike was 1000cc with 750cc carbs, so a slightly detuned version of the BMW R100.
The performance was good if not thrilling, handling was balanced even with narrower tyres that we use today, and excellent brakes.
This motorcycle was designed to be ridden long distances, and it felt very comfortable riding her all day.
The build quality of the BMW impressed me enough to buy more BMW motorcycles later in life.
Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes
