2000 Gilera Runner SP 180

Summary:

A nippy little runaround

Faults:

Nothing as yet, and the previous owner had few problems.

General Comments:

Acceleration takes a few seconds to kick in from cold, but can be scary when it's warmed up.

The seat is quite high for shorties ie tiptoe at traffic lights, whereas with my BMW R1100 RS I am flat footed... be cagey going around roundabouts, not too stable...

Underseat helmet storage does not take some full face helmets.. my aria.

2000 Gilera Runner SP 180

Summary:

One deep barrel of astounding fun!

Faults:

Not much really, speedo cable went, er loose spark plug cap (I'm trying!), yep, that's it,

General Comments:

This is one best kept secret! Ignorance and dismissive remarks like 'moped', and 'chickenchaser' are met with a wry smile if you own a 180 SP, because you know, that they simply don't know what the 'ped' can do.

Embarrassing litre bike riders who should have spent more time honing their craft on one of these rather than shouting "I've got a big one! and a leather suit to match... Look!". Because while they wobble round roundabouts and anything else that ain't dead straight, where they open up as if to display prowess and roar past, that 'scooter' is still up their chuff 20 miles later, embarrassing them again, round the outside, reading 80, and the familiar upright roar happens over again. Let him go, as you chill steady 60, you've made the point, and besides, who's lesson is it next? Sunday morning hunting has never been such fun.

2001 Gilera Runner SP 180

Summary:

Fast for a scooter, but poor quality build

Faults:

New forks on recall.

Replacement auto choke under warranty.

Replacement seat under warranty.

Sticking centre stands.

Leaking LH fork seal.

Very poor fit & finish, corrosion on various parts and some bits fell off...

General Comments:

Great around town for commuting, I didn't want a weedy 100, so went for this as a small, but powerful scooter for commuting through traffic. Very quick compared to other scooters at a max of 85mph, but totally weedy compared to the Triumph 1200 I had before this (no real surprise there).

Fit & finish are terrible, corrosion everywhere and it's garaged/cleaned regularly. Still hits 80mph on the clock, so not all bad. Needs constant TLC & not really up to the rigours of winter.

Handling is far too bouncy and very much point & squirt. Corners horribly due to the cheapo suspension components.
