1987 Honda CBR750 Hurricane

Summary:

I should have bought one when I was a lot younger

Faults:

56000 miles; brand new battery fitted.

3 days in the garage; battery was flat.

Any ideas?

General Comments:

Can't fault the motorcycle on anything.

It's fast, looks good and it keeps going and going. How fast do you want to go, and it takes you there.

1987 Honda CBR750 Hurricane

Summary:

Almost perfect

Faults:

The bike is a CBR750. Exactly the same as the 1000, but all aluminium engine with gear driven cams and produces around 114bhp.

Nothing apart from the exhaust headers splitting. This was cured by buying a set for a 1000 and having the collars cut off, and new ones turned and welded on to fit the smaller exhaust port holes on the 750.

The alarm has prevented starting a couple of times, not Honda's fault.

General Comments:

I had this bike after a 3 year lay off from riding and it has served me very well. Without doubt a seriously underrated bike that you should look at if you want cheap reliability and comfort.

A great bike that I will not sell, I will keep it as a main bike and use the new one as a toy.

I notice that you had to cut the collars off your 1000 exhaust. I bought a 1988 cbr1000 exhaust and it fitted into the exhaust ports perfectly without any alteration.

Having owned a CBR 750 (I believe that there are only 3 here in Ireland) for the past 3 years, I agree with the comments made in the review, i.e. 120 mile fuel load (and I'm not a maniac), comfort etc, but I’d like to ask other CBR 750 owners if they can help me.

1. As I am now over 50, can anyone tell me if I can get handle bars that let me sit more upright?

2. Is it true that the 88 CBR1000 pipes will fit the ports, because I got a set of 1000 pipes that would have to be cut down, so I did a repair job on the one pipe that was broken.

3. Where can I get a manual for this bike?

4. Where do you put the water in for the cooling system? It's normally done when I get the bike serviced, but I want to know how to do it myself.
