2011 BMW R 1100 RT

Summary:

Best motorcycle I have ever seen for long distance riding

Faults:

Have problems with the Bluetooth cutting in and out while riding with my iPod plugged into the radio.

General Comments:

This motorcycle has more power than I expected, and the wind protection is excellent in all kinds of weather.

I wish they would make it lower for those of us with less than a 30 inch inseam.

2004 BMW R 1100 RT

Faults:

Had to replace a highbeam bulb.

General Comments:

I had the dual spark R1150RT. The electric windshield, heated grips and dual power ports are great. Very powerful electrical system will run many accessories. Once rolling this model handles unbelievably well. The braking is also superb. This motorcycle is well suited for riding rural highways and interstates. The luggage is functional and easy to remove. I found this machine to be very reliable. The boxer engine is strong and a joy to ride.

In my opinion the negatives for the RT are: When full the large tank feels top heavy at slow speeds (parking lot speeds). Maintenance is scheduled more often than similar Japanese bikes, and is more expensive.

1996 BMW R 1100 RT

Summary:

Is a nice bike, but kind of expensive

Faults:

This bike is a high maintenance witch! Even with the ability to buy parts at the auto store, it still is an expensive bike to operate.

When it runs, it runs good. But I am dreading the day she drops the ABS controller unit, or the hydro-server thing. And with stock rims, tires are expensive due to only "Sport Touring" type tires fitting.

General Comments:

I do like the mild manner performance, the detachable luggage, adjustable seat, adjustable windscreen and heated grips and the ABS brakes. The radio is not bad, even though it is hard to hear at 50 mph.
