2004 Honda ST1300

Summary:

A bike that can travel and still rip off the curves with comfort and super reliability

Faults:

Headlights.

Alternator due to a bad battery.

Brake light.

Battery.

General Comments:

It runs like it's new still, the gas MPG is just awesome for this type of bike. I have 2 other bikes, a ZX14 and Goldwing, and I ride this one more. This bike has not aged, still looks great, and I get many people saying to me that it looks new.

Purchased in 2004 new. Seasonal rider in the Seattle area. I continue to love the bike for power, comfort and reliability. Most of my riding is I-90 from Seattle to the Eastern Washington area, so I enjoy both the freeway (less traveled) and the countless farming roads that offer plenty of spirited opportunities with no worries of radar traps etc. I keep waiting for the next generation to come, but for now it still inspires me every spring through fall with new roads to explore. PS storage is great.

2004 Honda ST1300

Summary:

Awesome bike that would be near perfect if had a better seat and lost a little weight

Faults:

One of the low beam headlights burnt out in fall of 2008.

General Comments:

Very stable, fast, awesome gas mileage; an average of 48 mpg.

This is a sport touring bike, not a sport bike.

I replaced the air filter with a K&N, and replaced the exhaust with two brothers when it had 16k on the trip. Big improvement on power.

Still has the original battery, front tires wears out at 12-15 k, and the rear is around 9k.

2004 Honda ST1300

Summary:

I'd purchase another in a heart beat

Faults:

I had the wiring harness pinched and cut after it was serviced, and had Helibars added.

General Comments:

I really love the ST1300's range.

I have not experienced the heat issue others have reported.

The bike handle so well at low speeds, it's hard to believe it weighs 630 lbs.

I find that the gauges can be hard to read when the sunlight is behind you, so thank God for analog tach and speedo.

2004 Honda ST1300

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

This bike is a 2004, sold new in 2006. I purchased this blue model in the summer of 2007. The bike is stock.

At first, after being snowed by its features, I began to notice the one thing that really bothers me. The front forks offer no compliance to road surfaces and offer quite a choppy ride. Now this has proven fine in the twisties, but this is more of a touring bike and I would like a smoother ride. My BMW was a beautifully handling bike and in comparison this Honda is a truck.

Also, it annoys me that heated grips and power adapters don't come stock on this level of motorcycle.

I tried to sell it, but no interest. Guess what, after a 1,000 miles I am beginning to enjoy the smooth deceptive motor and the unending torque it provides. The handling is growing on me too, and if only the forks were smoother I think I might love it.

The seat does begin to burn after an hour, but no one took a cast of my butt before building the stocker.

After all, I think this may be the best sport tourer out there.
