Faults:

Small leak at the transmission and condenser. That's it.

General Comments:

This bike was made for the shade tree mechanic. It's so easy to work on and runs just great. It's also a timeless classic that would be hard to lose money on.

It was my first bike and I rarely ride it because of my R1200C, I still can't let it go. It's simply a wonderful machine that I am hard pressed to find fault with.

Whenever I thought of BMW motorcycles, this bike was the one I pictured and still do.

Faults:

Bike sat for 12 years before I bought it. So take that into account.

1. Carbs overflowed until I got ALL the garbage out of the carbs.

2. Petcocks leaked - fixed by replacing O-rings and 5 hole washers. No more problems.

General Comments:

This classic BMW started the first time I put a battery in and hit the starter button. Carbs hadn't even been opened and cleaned at that point.

I've just gone over three thousand miles on here, and she keeps getting better.

If you buy one, get the Clymer's and don't be afraid to turn a wrench on it. This bike is very easy to work on and seems to have been made to last forever. I'm so confident in mine that I'm using it to commute to and from work.

Tracks well through hard turns and curves, just have to remember that when down shifting, this is an older bike and it will really slow you down when you drop into 2nd or first.

The only possible downside is you keep having to explain the "Opposing cylinders" to non-BMW folks... Oh and some Hog fans will admit a bit of Euro-envy:-)

Not one thing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

Airhead Boxers have been in production for over 50 years without much change. I got mine on a whim, hardly knowing anything about them, as I was shopping for a Honda when I ran into a friend who had 3 for sale. I took one ride and thought how comfortable this bike is. Super quiet and very light for a 900 cc bike. Important for an older rider like myself. Most modern big bikes are way over 600 lbs or more. This is around 425 lbs. Stock seat is comfortable. Great gentlemen's touring bike with tons of cool factor.
