2005 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUI Ultra Classic Electra Glide from United States of America
Summary:
Above Average
Faults:
Nothing.
General Comments:
Generally speaking, the bike is really nice. I really like the CB radio, but its range is a bit limited.
The six speed transmission is a real disappointment. It makes a lot of noise and the bike does not have enough horsepower to carry it.
The MP3 player is hard to hear and the wiring is not up to Harley-Davidson standards.
Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes

I have a 2006 FLHTCUI and it, too, has a 5-speed transmission.

I been riding bike since I was 15 years old. I've had many bikes.
I just bought a 2004 Ultra; I love it, but the only problem is cleaning it.
The bike is a bit heavy, but what a nice cruising bike, tons of storage room and not bad on fuel.
Overall a great machine.

First year for the six speed on the baggers was 2007.
I own an 2005 Electra standard with 58,000 miles on her. I have NO worries that she will easily make it to 100,000 without any kind of rebuild! (And I am pretty hard on her at times!)
Biggest thing with this year is the cam chain tensioner. It's the weakest point. I switched over to gear driven cams and have not only gained power, but reliability.

Do you have the part number for the cam swap? My bike sounds like it's growling down there now. It's an 05 Electra Glide with 14,000 miles. Thanks.

Before I bought my 2005 Ultra, I took a 2001 for a ride, and it had a six speed tranny in it.

Hello Fred,
I am looking to purchase a 2005 Ultra Glide Classic like yours and could you tell me all your concerns about your bike? Any problems you've had? Any unseen expenses? I like to gather all information before I spend lots of money.
Sincerely, Marc

I love my 05 Ultra 58,000 and it's running strong. Just had new front tire and oil change. Going to take a vacation next week, plan to put on a couple of thousand more miles.

2007 was the first year.

I've got a 2005 and always ask when they chained the cam shaft tensioners because they go bad at 25 to 30 thousand miles.

I thought the first year for a 6 speed in the Ultra was the new 2007 model.
I just bought a 2005 and it has only a 5 speed.
