1978 Suzuki GS1000EC from United States of America
Summary:
One of the finest motorcycles ever built
Faults:
A couple of rectifiers and voltage regulators, one stator, 2 sets of fork seals.
The clutch basket started rattling at around 12,000 miles. Used a Suzuki supplied fix kit and never had a problem after that.
General Comments:
This has been my favorite motorcycle of all time and I have owned many before and since I bought this 1978 GS1000E brand new. Some were more refined, some were faster, but I always came back to my beloved GS1000 because it just fits my addiction to motorcycles best.
I worked out the cold blooded carb problem early on. That was the only real shortcoming. The EPA really shackled the engine makers of that day with ultra lean carbs.
The seat, suspension and bulletproof engine make this a real collectable. I used Amsoil synthetic motor oil in it since 1981, hence the high mileage.
Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes

Great bike.
I bought a new one when they first came out; lovely black with blue and gold pin-striping.
At the time nothing could live with it. I ruled the roads and thrashed everything.
One of my biggest regrets was having to sell it when I left the UK to live in Turkey.
That's the main reason I bought myself a new Bandit 1200, which reminds me of my old bike.
