1999 Suzuki VZ800 Marauder from Brazil

Summary:

My passion

Faults:

The only problem I had with this bike was the highest price of parts and custom parts in Brazil; parts stores practice high abusive prices and we need to do a great deal of research to find the best price.

Also, the seat is hard for long trips.

General Comments:

The VZ800 is the best bike in its category. It has good durability and is a beautiful bike. It has a very strong engine and I love it.

Better than a Honda Shadow 600cc or 750cc too. Better than a Yamaha Dragstar, and why not better than an 883 HD and many others in this category. I respect the others, but this is like a cannon on the roads.

Long live the VZ800.

I agree that there can be electrical problems due to corrosion. I also believe that this bike corners slow, even to the point of being dangerous. Otherwise it's a very cool bike.

Summary:

Reliable, but cheap in every respect

Faults:

Some minor electrical problems, due to corrosion.

Clutch slippage.

Chrome rusts badly, must be treated regularly.

This bike is generally very solid mechanically.

General Comments:

This was one of the cheapest 800s around when I bought it, and it shows. Basic brakes and imprecise dampers, probably one of the slowest bikes in existence around a bend. OK, it's a cruiser, but the handling of this bike is almost dangerous.

But it has been very reliable, and combined with the resale price almost equal to zero, has made me keep it.

Unless you are a beginner, do not buy this bike!

Bike perspectives are relative. Cruisers are only really any good in countries that have straight roads, little rain and lots of sunshine. I own a cruiser in NZ, but I would never have bought one when I lived in England.

No rain = no rust

Gentle corners = OK handling

Sunshine = cruising

Maybe the bike is just wrong for you.
